Who Can Apply

One of the biggest questions is: Can you apply if you're still finishing your bachelor’s degree? The answer is yes. The scholarship’s current call for applications explicitly includes bachelor (BA/BSc) students, and final-year students are eligible to apply.

Just take note: when you apply, you'll need to upload relevant academic documents (transcripts, school certificates, etc.).  If your final certificate isn’t available yet, many applicants use a declaration of missing documents (or “pending graduation” statement) and then submit the final certificate later  as long as you meet the required deadlines.

How to Apply: Step-by-Step

1. Check Eligibility
First, make sure Nigeria (or your country) is on the list of sending partners that Hungary supports under this scheme. If your country is listed, check the available study fields and universities.

2. Choose Your Programmes
You’re allowed to pick two universities/programmes in your application.

3. Contact Your Sending Partner
In Nigeria, this could be your education ministry, Hungarian embassy, or another designated body. They will guide you about any local-specific procedures.

Things to Know Before You Apply

The scholarship is fully funded, but you must maintain a certain academic performance while studying: at least 18 credits per semester (on average) is required. If you start a full-time bachelor’s or master’s programme, you will also be required to take a Hungarian language course (free at the host institution) for two semesters.
You should not pay any agency to help you apply  all applications go through the official Stipendium Hungaricum portal

For self-funded students already studying in Hungary, re-applying for the scholarship is possible, but only if your university recommends you and your academic performance meets their criteria.

Why Final-Year Students Should Consider This Now

If you’re in your final year of undergrad, applying for Stipendium Hungaricum is a smart move  especially because:

1. You likely have most of your academic documents ready or nearly complete.

2. You can use your current grades/expected graduation to apply, then follow up with your degree certificate when you finish.

3. If awarded, you’ll start a new degree programme in Hungary (you might not transfer your existing one), which means a fresh European start but on full scholarship.
